Scientists from Italy, Austria, Slovenia, USA, and Spain have investigated fourteen beech stands in the Eastern Alps, growing between 200 and 1500 m a.s.l. ... I want to thank to everybody who helped by commenting on earlier versions of the manuscript, by sending articles published in “gray literature” or simply by showing interest for the topic. The main organizer Qui Bin Zhang with a long list of co-workers did great work. The conference run smoothly fall the time. We can say that we had best possible hosts. Practically each of 272 participants from over 30 countries contributed to high quality of the conference and to warm and friendly atmosphere. In the week from 11 till 17 June we had a lot of opportunity to work and also to learn about Beijing and China and Chinese people. A considerable number of participants is at the moment still on one of the excursions (mainly Tibet with over 40 participants) or at other places working on different projects in cooperation with China.
